Call Features
Once you're in an active call, Landline provides several features to manage the conversation. This guide covers hold, mute, and the call controls available during calls.
Active Call Panel
During an active call, the Active Call panel shows all relevant information and controls:
Hold
The Hold feature pauses both audio streams in the call, allowing you to step away or consult with someone else without the other party hearing.
Placing a Call on Hold
- During an active call, click the Hold button (pause icon)
- The call timer changes to show "ON HOLD"
- The other party hears silence (or optional hold music if configured)
Resuming a Held Call
- Click the Resume button (or click Hold again)
- Audio reconnects immediately
- The timer resumes counting
Hold is not available for Override or Monitor calls. For conferences, hold affects all participants.
Mute
Mute silences your microphone while still allowing you to hear the other party. Unlike Hold, the other party doesn't know you're muted.
Muting Your Microphone
Click the microphone icon in the control bar to toggle mute.
Mute vs Hold
| Feature | Mute | Hold |
|---|---|---|
| Your audio | Silenced | Silenced |
| Their audio | Still heard | Silenced |
| They know? | No | Yes (shows "On Hold") |
| Use case | Quick side conversation | Extended pause |
Call Timer
The call timer shows how long the current call has been active:
- Format:
MM:SS(minutes:seconds) - Starts when the call is connected (not when dialing)
- Pauses during Hold and resumes when call is resumed
Call Type Indicator
A badge in the Active Call panel shows the call type:
Conference calls display multiple participant names instead of a badge.
Volume Control
Adjust the incoming call volume using the slider in the control bar:
This adjusts call audio independently from your system volume.
