Conference Calls

Conference calls allow three parties to communicate simultaneously, enabling complex multi-facility coordination. This guide explains how to create, manage, and end conferences.

How Conferences Work

Landline uses a full mesh architecture for conference calls:

You 1A 1K

Full mesh: Each participant connects directly to the others

Creating a Conference

There are two ways to create a conference call:

Method 1: Merge an Incoming Call

When you're already on a call and receive another incoming call:

  1. You'll see the new call in the Pending Calls panel
  2. Instead of Accept/Decline, you'll also see a Merge button
  3. Click Merge to add them to your current call
  4. All three parties are now connected

Method 2: Add a Third Party

While on a 2-party call, you can invite a third position:

  1. Open the dialer (phone icon in the title bar)
  2. Search for and select the third position
  3. They'll receive an incoming call marked "Conference Invite"
  4. Once they accept, all three are connected
Conference Limit
Conferences are limited to 3 participants. If you try to add a fourth person, you'll see an error message.

During a conference, the Active Call panel shows all participants:

Conference Call Scenarios

Scenario 1: Traffic Coordination

A center controller needs to coordinate with both departure and approach:

  1. Center calls Approach
  2. While on the call, Departure calls Center
  3. Center clicks Merge to bring everyone together
  4. All three coordinate the traffic

Scenario 2: Training Observation

A supervisor needs to join an ongoing call between trainee and traffic:

  1. Trainee and visiting controller are on a call
  2. Supervisor calls the trainee
  3. Trainee clicks Merge
  4. Supervisor can listen and participate as needed
