First Login

Launching Landline takes you through two screens: the splash login and the waiting screen. Live mode connects you to the live network; training mode keeps you isolated with other training users.

Live Mode

Live mode connects you to the real Landline network with other controllers.

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. Pick your facility.
  2. Click Login with VATSIM and complete the OAuth flow in your browser.
  3. Landline opens the waiting screen and looks for your VATSIM connection.
  4. Once your callsign matches a configured position, you're placed on that position and the main window appears.
Position auto-detection
Landline matches your VATSIM callsign to a configured position automatically. If nothing matches, you'll stay on the waiting screen — check your callsign or ask your FE to add the position.

Training Mode

Training mode lets you use Landline without being live on VATSIM. Useful for practice sessions, walkthroughs, and FE testing.

Students

  1. Click the graduation-cap icon to turn training mode on.
  2. Pick your facility and log in with VATSIM.
  3. On the waiting screen, enter the training code your instructor generated.

Training Staff

Facility staff listed on the Staff tab can generate a training code from the waiting screen to hand to students. Training users are isolated from live users.

FE Access

Facility Engineers open the admin panel after signing in via VATSIM.

  1. Log in with VATSIM as normal.
  2. On the waiting screen, look for the gear icon in the bottom-right corner. It only appears if your CID has FE access to at least one facility.
  3. Click it. A picker shows every facility you can administer and how you got access (FE, Whitelisted, or Superadmin).
  4. Pick a facility to open the FE panel.

Common Issues

Problem Cause Fix
No facilities in the dropdown Can't reach the server Check your internet connection, then retry.
Stuck on the waiting screen Your callsign doesn't match any configured position Confirm your VATSIM callsign, or ask your FE to add the position.
Browser didn't return to Landline The landline:// protocol handler wasn't registered Reinstall Landline, or open the link Landline printed in your browser.
