Channel Configuration
Channels define communication paths between positions. By default, positions within the same facility can call each other. Channels are used for more advanced routing scenarios like inter-facility communication and shout lines.
Channel Types
Internal Channels
Communication within your facility. These are created automatically when positions are added to the same facility.
- All positions in a facility can call each other by default
- No manual channel configuration required for basic intra-facility calls
External Channels
Communication between facilities (inter-facility). These must be explicitly configured.
- Connect your positions to adjacent ARTCC positions
- Requires coordination with the other facility's FE
- Both facilities must configure their end of the channel
Shout Lines
One-to-many broadcast channels for group announcements.
- One position broadcasts to multiple recipients
- Recipients hear the message but respond individually
- Useful for facility-wide announcements
Creating an External Channel
To set up communication with an adjacent facility:
- In the FE panel, select Channels
- Click Add External Channel
- Configure the channel settings
- Click Save
External Channel Settings
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Local Position | Your position that will have access to this channel |
| Remote Facility | The adjacent facility code (e.g., ZNY) |
| Remote Position | The specific position at the remote facility |
| Display Name | How this channel appears in the grid |
External channels require both facilities to configure their end. Coordinate with the adjacent facility's FE to ensure both sides are set up correctly.
Creating a Shout Line
Shout lines allow one position to broadcast to multiple recipients:
- In the FE panel, select Channels
- Click Add Shout Line
- Name the shout line (e.g., "All Sectors")
- Select the members (positions that will receive broadcasts)
- Click Save
Shout Line Example
A TMU position needs to broadcast to all center sectors:
Channel Visibility
Control which positions can see and use specific channels:
Visibility Options
- All Positions - Every position in the facility can use this channel
- Specific Positions - Only selected positions can use this channel
- Position Types - Only certain position types (e.g., TMU, Supervisor)
Adjacent Facility Page
For facilities with many external connections, create a dedicated "Adjacent" page:
- Create a new page called "Adjacent" (see Facility Setup)
- Add external channel positions to this page
- Users can switch to this page to call adjacent facilities
Troubleshooting Channels
External Channel Not Working
- Verify both facilities have configured their end
- Check that the remote facility is online in Landline
- Confirm position callsigns match exactly
Shout Line Issues
- Verify all member positions are correctly added
- Check that members are online to receive broadcasts
- Test with a single recipient first
Best Practices
- Use descriptive channel names for external connections
- Document which sectors have access to which external channels
- Limit shout line membership to positions that need broadcasts
- Test new channels in Training Mode before production use
